Matthew A. Woycik, 84, an Irvington resident more than 50 years, died Thursday in a nursing home in Mahopac. Mr. Woycik was born in Poland, April 23, 1899, and was brought to this country by his family when he was an infant. The family settled in New York City. He was graduated from the Cornell University College of Agriculture and then worked as a gardener on private estates in the Irvington area until the early 1940s when he was employed by Lord and Burnham, Irvington greenhouse manufacturers. He remained with them until six years ago. He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Dobbs Ferry, and sang in its choir. He often brought flowers he had grown to the church and frequently presented bouquets to his neighbors. Just a month ago he brought large clusters of lilacs to his churchand said this year's crop was the best he had ever seen. He was quoted in this newspaper as saying, 'Flowers are happiness you like to spread around.' Mr. Woycik's wife, the former Celia Dederick, died in 1976, and a son, Roy, died in 1980. A brother, Edward, died a year ago. He is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Mrs. Albert) Tino of Hastings a brother, Stanley, of New York City four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. - Gannett Westchester Newspapers June 19, 1983
