Ruth Helen Muller Palmatier Fingar Jerdon, long-time Valley resident and frequent letter-writer to The Record-Courier, died at her home in Fish Springs April 6.
She was one of the last employees of the V&T Railroad [Virginia & Truckee] before its demise in 1950. She came to Nevada with her first husband, Ed Palmatier, in the late 1940s.
She and her second husband Jim Fingar moved to Carson Valley in 1951, and in 1962, they and their family homesteaded 160 acres in the Fish Springs area.
In 1969, she and Mr. Fingar took over the South Shell in Gardnerville, and it remained a family business until 1984. She then became the 'mail lady' between Minden and Bridgeport and worked her route for 17 years, delivering mail and anything else people needed along the way. She also worked part-time at the Riverview Seven-11, where she loved to chat with patrons, and Farmers National Bank.
In 1981, she married George 'Joe' Jerdon.
She was born to George Fritz Muller and Agnes Bergendahl Muller in Pine Plains, N.Y., Nov. 8, 1926, and was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Ed Palmatier and Jim Fingar.
Survivors include her husband Joe of Fish Springs sons Philip Fingar of Gardnerville and George 'Butch' Palmatier of Palm Desert, Calif. daughter Helen 'Cookie' Roulias of Reno brother George Muller of Evanston, N.Y. and sister Doris Hoysradt of Pine Plains and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
