WWII Draft Registration
"Brothers in arms" is more than a dictum to
Edward P. Finger and
George E. Finger. Both are police captains now, following a confirmation of Mayor Thomas A. Gustafson's nomination by the City Council. George Finger, the younger brother, has been the city's only police captain for 15 years, and now his brother Edward has been appointed to serve as the second police captain. A recent charter amendment authorized the second captain for the force. -

Olean Captain Edward P. Finger, 60, of 1114 West Sullivan Street, a member of the Olean police force for almost 25 years died in St. Francis Hospital at 4 P.M. Sunday. He was born Oct. 2, 1890 in Olean.
He was a veteran of World War I and was employed in the Pennsylvania Railroad shops until joining the police force. In 1941, he was promoted to sergeant, and four years ago named to the post he held until his death.
Captain Finger was a member of Olean Post No. 530, American Legion, the Dempsey Club of the Police Department and the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Anibas Finger; a daughter, Barbara A. Finger; a son, Edward P. Finger, Jr.; two
brothers, George E. Finger and Alfred Finger, all of Olean. - Jamestown Post-Journal February 12, 1951
