WWII Draft Registration
A dropped cigarette led to the death of Philip Arms, 64, of Carmel, in a two-car collision one mile north of the Hawthorne Traffic Circle Sunday night.
Robert Silver, 19, of The Bronx, told Westchester Parkway Police he dropped a cigarette, which started to burn his clothing. When he attempted to put out the fire, he lost control of his automobile and it jumped the parkway between lanes and crashed into Arm's car, police said.
Mr. Arms 63 years old is a former policeman who served on the New York city police department. He was a member, of the Police Corps club, P.B.A., Wieland Lodge No. 714.
He is survived by his wife, the former Freida M. Finger, two daughters, Freida Thomson and Kathleen Neilligan and eight grandchildren. - Putnam County Courier August 17, 1961
