Charles A. Kelley, 79, a former Western Union telegrapher, died at his home Monday. He had been ill for some time. Funeral services were conducted at Grace Episcopal Church, here, at two o'clock, Thursday. The Rev. H. Ross Greer, rector, officiated. Burial was in Nine Partners Cemetery under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home. Members of Halcyon Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Millbrook, conducted services at the funeral home at 8 o'clock Tuesday night.
Mr. Kelly was born in Bangall, December 19, 1866, the son of the late Thomas and Catherine Crowe Kelley. He had made his home here since 1891. He and Mrs. Kelley, the former Miss Laura McCurdy, were married in 1894 and observed their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.
In his early life, Mr. Kelley was associated with the old Newburgh and Dutchess railroad which is now the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad. In 1930, he became telegrapher with the Western Union and continued in that capacity until 1943.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyle, here, and Mrs. Raymond L. Denney, Poughkeepsie a son, Charles A. Kelley, Washington, D. C., a brother, Samuel J. Kelley, Rosebank, Staten Island three grandchildren, Robert H. and Catherine E. Lyle, here, and Paul J. Denney, Poughkeepsie, and several nieces and nephews. Another, a daughter, Mrs. Margaret A.
