Fred G. Wittenburg Sr. of Seneca Court, 401 Alder St., Olean, died at the Olean General Hospital, Monday (March 3, 1975) following a short illness.
He was born in Olean, Aug. 18, 1895, a son of William and Mary Finger Wittenburg.
Mr. Wittenburg had been employed as a gauger for the Socony Vacuum Oil Co., Olean Refinery, for over 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1951. For several years he served as a crossing guard at the old school 11.
Surviving are two sons, William R. Wittenburg of Duncansville, Pa., and Fred G. Wittenburg Jr. of Friendship; a
daughter, Mrs. Edward (Wilma) McFadden of Olean; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and two greatgrandchildren; a brother, Henry Wittenburg of Olean; three sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Sophia) Meyers and Mrs. Alfred (Minnie) Struble, both of Olean, and Mrs. Clifford (Marie) Wing of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wittenburg was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Olean; the Socony Vacuum 20 Year Club; a life member of Olean Lodge 491, BPOE; and a life member of St. Stephen's Club. He was also director of the Sociables of Seneca Court.
Friends may call at the Halwig Funeral Home Inc., 117 Hamilton St., Olean, where the family will be present today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held there Thursday (March 6, 1975) beginning with a family prayer service at 1:30 p.m. and followed by services at 2 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ronald L. Bergen,
pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery.
