One of the most unusual automobile accidents reported in Yates County in some time occured during the night on the Potter-Middlesex state highway, one mile from Potter, when two cars disputed the right of way and ended up on opposite sides of the road after plunging over embankments about 300 feet apart. None of the five occupants of the cars was seriously injured, State Troopers Fred Ouyle and Howard Ellsworth, who investigated the accident, reported.
Police said that the large sedan driven by Mrs. Alice Finger of Potter, in which her daughter, Bernice, 12, was riding, collided with a light sedan driven by Herbert Clark, 24, of Rushville, in which Samuel Roch and Francis Davis of Middlesex, were passengers. The drivers of both cars lost control, it is believed, and both cars plunged over embankments, the Clark car turning over three times while rolling down a 50-foot bank. PENN YAN - Alice C. Fingar, 87, of RD 4, died this morning at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home. Friends may call at the Weldon Funeral Home tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Smith officiating. Burial will in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
Mrs Fingar had been a Penn Yan area resident all her life. She was a member of the Home Bureau and the Senior Citizens. Memorial donations may be made to the Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Surviving are one son, Walter of Benton Center one daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Bernice) Dewey Jr. of Canandaigua one granddaughter, Mrs. Mitchell (Mary) Record of Canandaigua and five greatgrandchildren. - Finger Lakes Times February 18, 1978
