Found her on the 1870 Saugerties, Ulster, New York census (img 34) as Clara Carnwright age 25.

Found her on the 1880 Saugerties, Ulster, New York census (dist 152 img 15) as Clara Carnright age 35. The family is in the household of her father, John Maines. Address: 125 Main St.

Mrs. Ezra Carnwright, of Saugerties committed suicide Sunday by drowning herself in the Esopus Creek. Not long ago her daughter, Bertha Carnwright, attempted suicide by trying to drown herself in a well.

For some time Miss Carnwright was engaged to a young man of the village, and he postponed their wedding several times. Finally, while in a fit of despondency she threw herself in a well, but was rescued. This grieved the girl's mother considerably and for a long time there was intense feeling against the young man who disappointed Miss Carnwright. The young lady was taken to an asylum, and ever since the mother has shown signs of despondency. - The Pine Plains Register May 16, 1902
