Wilhelm Finger age 25, arriving in New York from Bremen, Germany in Nov 1861.
He joined the Union Army within one month of his arrival. After the end of the war he went back to Germany for a visit and to learn the upholstering trade from his father.
We next find him on the ship's passenger list Atalanta in 1867, returning to the U.S. It was on this voyage he met his future wife. - Civil War Pension Record, NARA

Wm Fingar age 32, upholsterer. Also in his household is
Chas Finger age 16, painter, born Germany. It is unknown how he is related.
Found him on the 1880 Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia census (dist 91 img 40) as
Wm Finger age 43, upholsterer.
