—During the thunder storm an Saturday night, May 21st, lightning struck a tall balsam tree standing on the premises of Mr.
Morgan L. Finger on the Saugerties & Woodstock Turnpike. A wire clothes line was fastened to the corner of the kitchen and extended from there to the tree and from thence to a post a short distance away. The lightning passed down the tree and on reaching the wire line separated and followed the line in both directions from the tree. That portion of the fluid which went to the post followed it and entered the ground; that which went to the kitchen did considerable damage. The corner of the kitchen where the line was attached was completely demolished; all the things hanging in the room on nails, etc., were knocked from their places and lay strewn about the floor in more or less damaged condition. The accident occurred about 11 o'clock when all the members of the family were in bed and asleep. They however were all awakened by the concussion and very much frightened but received no injury. -
