Canaan lost one of its oldest and most beloved residents this week with the passing of William Bither, 90, who died November 20. Born in Chatham, the son of John Bither and Frances Spath, Mr. Bither had resided in Canaan for 65 years and for the greater part of his life he served as section foreman on the Boston and Albany Railroad at Canaan and Richmond, Mass., until his retirement in 1930.
Survivors include a son, Henry D. Bither, and a daughter, Mrs. Ira Finch, along with five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, all of Canaan. At the time of Mrs. Bither's death in 1948, the couple had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Services will be held from the residence of Ira Finch on Friday afternoon at 2 with the Rev. A.
