Found him on the 1880 Red Hook, Dutchess, New York census (img 11) as Willis H. Hermance age 24, retail provisions.
Coroner George C Byrne last evening concluded the inquest as to cause of death of Willis Hermance who was injured in this city by a falllng derrick which was broken while in use in hoisting coal from a canal boat. The Jury rendered the following: Verdict - That Willis Hermance came to his death in the city of Hudson on the 11th day of May 1888 and that death was caused by dislocation of neck, occurring by a falling derrick, used for hoisting purposes striking him. - Hudson Daily Evening Register May 29, 1888
