Earl E. Finzar, 78, 91 Hamilton St., died at Geneva General Nursing Home Saturday after a long illness. Mr. Finzar was an ex-labor leader who was Geneva's labor leader during the building of Sampson Naval Base. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home. The Rev. J. Russell Carpenter, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to a charity of their choice. Mr. Finzar was born in Milo, the son of Phillip E. and Matie Coons Finzar. In 1945, he was appointed to the New York State Mediation Board and served in Albany and Buffalo. In 1948, he went to Syracuse as district director of the mediation board. While in Syracuse, he was a member and trustee of the Furman Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Geneva and Syracuse Kiwanis Clubs. In 1981, he retired and came back to his home in Geneva. He was also a member of The First United Methodist Church of Geneva and he taught Sunday school at the church for seven years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Geneva YMCA for several years. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Wyman Finzar one son, John D. Finzar, two granddaughters, Lyn and Beth, and two grandsons, John Jr. and Jan, all of Geneva and several nieces and nephews. The Geneva Times March 12, 1973
