The death of George M. Barney, 112 E. Embargo street, occurred shortly before noon today. He had been ill but a few days with pneumonia and complications. Mr. Barney was born in Newport, Herkimer county, in 1868 and came to Rome about 12 years ago, at which time he entered the employ of the Rome Brass and Copper Company, where he was employed up to the time of his recent illness. Beside his wife, Mrs. Anna W. Barney and his mother, Mrs. Jeannette Barney of Newport, is survived by one daughter, Anna G. Barney and one son, Ira Barney, both at home two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Ferguson and Mrs. I. George of Herkimer and one brother, Fred Barney of Stamford, Conn. Mr. Barney was a member of St. John's E. L. Church of this city and of Rome Tent, K. O. T. M. and the Foresters of America. He was a very well known man and was popular with all who knew him. - The Rome Daily Sentinel April 12, 1918.
