Jacob Closs age 74, Retired farmer. Father, mother born Germany.
Jacob Closs, well known farmer of Wurtemburg, died suddenly of heart trouble late Saturday afternoon at his home shortly after he returned from attending the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Marquet at the Wurtemburg church. He was in his seventy-fifth year.
Mr. Closs had complained earlier in the day of not feeling well but his general health, for several months past, had been considered better than usual.
Mr. Closs was born in Rhinebeck February 10, 1856 and has always lived in this township. His parents were Christian J. and Elizabeth Closs. His father was killed during the Civil War while serving in the Union Army.
He married Agnes Rikert, also of Rhlnebeck, on December 18, 1889 and they celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary last December.
Besides his wife he is survived by three children: Warren H. and Wesley J. Closs of Rhlnebeck and Mrs. Harold J. Coon of Red Hook and by two grandsons, Donald and Robert Closs of Rhlnebeck.
Mr. Closs had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church at Wurtemburgh for more than fifty years. He served in the various offices of trustee, elder and deacon and was treasurer of the church for some time. He was an honorary member of the Wurtemburg Brothernood. At the time of his death he was president of the Wurtemburg Cemetery Association, trustee of the Wurtemburg Shed Association and was vice president of the Farmers Town Mutual Insurance Co., of Rhinebeck.
Funeral services were held in the Wurtemburg church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. H. H. Wahl of Hudson officiating in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. E. G. Himes, who was in Pennsylvania. The bearers were: S. J. Hermans, Clarence Traver, Walter T. Ackert, Austin 8. Frost, Percy M Lown. Harry V Marquet. The Rhinebeck Gazette May 3, 1930
