The funeral of Mrs. Alfred Westfall was held from the Canaan Congregational church, Tuesday, at 1 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. William T. Hartley conducting the service. Burial was in Chatham. Mrs. Westfall was before her marriage Miss Frances Bither. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bither. She was born in Chatham, May' 7, 1858. Mr. and Mrs. Westfall have, through the years together occupied many positions of trust and responsibility in widely separated localities. They conducted the hotel at Canaan, formerly known as the Rubicon, for a time. They'were connected with Royville the summer camp for boys at Queechy Lake, for a period. A few years ago, they moved to Hardwick Mass.. where she died Saturday evening Nov. 14, at about. 6 o'clock. A few. weeks ago she had visited Canaan and Chatham friends and although never in vigorous heaith, was not thought to be in so serious a condition, but, since her return to her home, she failed rapidly, untii the end. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Luther Coons, of Canaan, and Mrs. Carrie Grew, of Hardwick. There are three grandchildren and one great granddaughter. William Bither of Canaan is a brother. The funeral was largely attended. -Chatham Courier November 19, 1931
