Franklin G. Bassakalis, 19, of R.D. 1, West Ghent, was arrested Saturday on a charge of reckless driving after the car he was operating ran into the rear of a truck which had stopped on the highway at Clinton Heights where it had been involved in a previous accident. The Ghent man entered a plea of not guilty to the charge and was released under $25 bail until Tuesday night at which time he demanded a jury trial before Justice of the Peace of Clinton Heights. State Police, of the East Greenbush station were investigating a
truck-car accident, in which one man was injured when a car operated by Bassakalis, ran into the rear of the truck. - The Chatham Courier July 18, 1940
Postmaster George J. Bassakalis, of Ghent, and Mrs. Bassakalis have received word from their son, Franklin, that he has been promoted to corporal. Corporal Bassakalis hasn't been home in two years.
