Norma Salmons Finger's folk paintings have been displayed in galleries that include the Southern Ohio Art Museum and the Headley-Whitney Museum, but her favorite hangs on her living room wall.
It depicts a day in the life of pumpkins - farmers take them into town, and townspeople use them to decorate their homes, said Donald Finger, her husband of more than 50 years.
Mrs. Finger, 80, died Friday at Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Donald Finger readily shared memories behind many paintings that decorate nearly every corner of the couple's Scott County home.
"They all have a small story," he said.
For eight years, Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville had chosen one of Mrs. Finger's paintings to reproduce on a Christmas card to benefit the hospital.
"She was their best seller," Donald Finger said.
One of her paintings also appeared on an invitation to a post-Derby party given in 1986 by former Gov. John Y. Brown Jr. The painting depicts Brown's Cave Hill home.
Donald Finger said his wife had a good sense of humor and was always bashful when someone complimented her. The couple traveled a lot and loved visiting historical places. She would often get an idea for a painting and have to describe it in detail to her husband.
"We're going to miss her," he said. "You don't live with somebody for 56 years and not miss them."
Mrs. Finger, who suffered from dementia, had had a difficult time coping with the death of her son, Matthew Wallace Finger, last year, her husband said. Mrs. Finger also is survived by three daughters, Donna DeLaMare, Beth Ann Butrum and Rebecca Finger, all of Georgetown.
