Cyrus W. Morehouse, former sheriff and supervisor, died at his home near Rock City in the town of Milan
yesterday morning after a brief illness, in his 71st year.
Stricken with heart disease, June 10, Mr. Morehouse succumbed at 11:30 o’clock yesterday morning to what he had considered his first illness. The attack left him unconscious for four days after which he remained constantly in bed, attended by physicians and nurses. High hope was held out for his recovery until three days ago when he suffered a relapse. Although his physique was broken down by the illness in the time following his relapse, Mr. Morehouse’s mind became more alert toward the end than it had been during the illness.
Mr. Morehouse was born in the house in which he died. August 6, 1858, the son of Lyman Morehouse and Margaret Ann Best. He lived all his life in Dutchess County.
About forty years ago he married Florence Story, also of the Town of Milan, who died April 18, 1928. On February 29, 1929, Mr. Morehouse married Mrs. Etta Berry Lattin of Staatsburg and they spent their honeymoon in Florida, remaining until April 1. Mr. Morehouse returned home apparently in good health. - Poughkeepsie Eagle-News July 13, 1929
