Found him on the 1850 Saugerties, Ulster, New York census (img 146) as Augustus Hommel age 4.

Found him on the 1860 Saugerties, Ulster, New York census (img 14) age 14, living with his brother Peter and his wife.

Augustus was in the 7th Light Flying Arty, Badger State Flying Arty Unit, Wisconsin. He was killed on August 21, 1864 at Memphis, one of only four deaths that day, defending the city of Memphis against Nathan Bedford Forest. He was a sergeant of the Artillery. - Patrick E. Mower
