There is a framed letter in the wall at Livingston Manor in Clermont from Mrs. Livingston to her brother-in-law, New York State Governor, requesting that Philip Shultis be released from military service to rebuild Clermont. It was because of his connection with the Livingstons that Philip's son, Henry P. Shultis became the Livingston's Land Agent up until the down rent war. The Daughter of Henry P.'s son, Chauncey, married the son of Jay Gould, railroad tycoon. - Katie Jellinghaus Shultis
