Found him on the 1860 (not stated), Catawba, North Carolina census (img 28) as James M. Finger age 14.

Found him on the 1870 Union, Lincoln, North Carolina census (img 4) as James M. Finger age 24, single living at home.

Found him on the 1880 Catawba Springs, Lincoln, North Carolina census (dist 100 img 34) as Monroe Finger age 35, farmer. He is listed as James Monroe Finger on his son Robert's death certificate. However, he is listed as Monroe Finger in most places.

His wife's death certificate says she is the widow of J M Finger.
