Nancy Finger, born May 22, 1819, departed this life June 26, 1902, at the very old age of 83 years, 1 month and 4 days. Her younger days were spent with her father in settling the country. At that day this country had but few settlers. In September 1842, she was married to Harling H. Pope. To this happy couple were born eight children, six of whom still live. Simpson, the eldest, was given to his country’s call in 1861. He was called to cease life’s struggles and battles April 11, 1863, at Millikan Bend, Louisiana. J.W., H.D., Wm. H., J.R., Ransom and Emmitt survive her. In the death of Grandma, (as she was commonly called) the county loses a pioneer -- one who has seen the state grow from infancy to what it is now.
