When she was christened on Sunday, Tara Chaplin wore her great-grandmother's christening dress which was made in 1897. She was the seventh baby and the fourth generation to wear the dress, made by Tara's great-great grandmother McCurdy in Rhinebeck. It was first worn in 1897 by Elizabeth Kelley Lyle, and subsequently her children, Robert H. Lyle, and C. Elizabeth Lyle Wicker were, both christened in it. Robert Lyle's daughters, Jane and Jessica, also both wore the dress, as did Jane's daughter Erin Jawarski Tara's mother, Jessica Lyle Chaplin, wore the dress when she was christened in 1951, and last month had the pleasure of seeing her daughter carry on the family tradition. - The Millbrook Round Table July 29, 1981 page 7
