He went to California during the gold fever, but soon returned to Texas. In the great war between the States (1861-5), although he was past the age when military service could be exacted of him, he enlisted in the Confederate army, was assigned to duty in Texas, and for some time helped guard Federal prisoners at Tyler. After the war he devoted himself to his farm. He was for a number of years justice of the peace at Arlington. - Historic Texas
