John H. Finger, Jr., 25, of Dresden, was arrested and charged with operating a car while intoxicated, driving at a speed of 100 miles per hour, and failure to heed a stop sign. Yates County Sheriff's Dept. arrested Finger at 1:50 a.m. today following a chase that started in Dresden five miles east of Penn Yan and ended approximately two miles north of Penn Yan on Flat St. in the Town of Benton, a distance of 10 miles. Finger was seen by Deputy Richard Hudson driving on the streets of Dresden at a fast rate of speed. After taking up the chase, the deputy followed Finger north on Rt. 14 until he reached the Nutt Rd., then west to the Ridge Rd., then turning south to Rt. 54 and then west again until Finger had reached Penn Yan. The chase continued west on North St., then north on Flat St. where Finger was apprehended when he lost control of his car causing it to go into a ditch. His speed at various times had been clocked at 100 miles per hour. Finger was not injured. He was taken before Peace Justice Charles Travis, Town of Benton, who released him on his own recognizance to appear Monday before Peace Justice Peter Jensen in the Town of Torrey. - The Geneva Times February 24, 1968
