Miss Cordelia Ketterer on her 95th birthday told a reporter, asking her advice on how to reach that age, 'see beauty around you and enjoy your friends,' she said. Her love for her friends has been returned. Yesterday marked Miss Ketterer's 104th birthday, and the affection of the staff at Geneva General Hospital Nursing Home, where she is now a resident, was apparent. There was a cake for 'Cordie,' as she known, sent to the nursing home by her niece, Mrs. Lula Keavney. And cards, which Miss Ketterer looked over and said, ' I 'm honored.' Miss Ketterer was a teacher in Bellona and several other country schools, teaching in the one-room school house which served the eight grades. She was born in the Town of Benton and was the youngest of 15 children. She drove a car until the age of 85 when she decided it was best to stop driving. Miss Ketterer's niece Mrs. Keavney takes care of her affairs. She also has a grandnephew, Earl Finger of Penn Yan who, with his wife, visits her. The staff at the Nursing Home 'enjoy her because of her quick wit and humor,' said Mrs. Gertrude Spry, ward secretary. Finger Lakes Times April 8, 1978
