John Finger, a long time resident of Amenia and operator of Finger's Variety Store on West Main Street, died Saturday, February 24, in Sharon Hospital.
He was born in New York City, July 26, 1904, the son of the late John and Freda (Bauer) Finger. Mr. Finger had been a resident of Dutchess County for the last 25 years. He was married to the former Marjorie Bryant.
In addition to his ownership of the store in Amenia, he was a driver education instructor at Maplebrook School, Amenia.
Mr. Finger was a member of Wieland Masonic Lodge No. 714 in New York and the Order of the Eastern Star of that lodge. In Amenia, he was a member of the Amenia Fire Company, the Amenia Grange, the Millerton Rod and Gun Club, and the Amenia Auxiliary Police.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Barbara) Toner, Plattsburgh, and Miss Joan Finger, Amenia a sister, Mrs. Philip Arms, New York City; a brother Frederick Finger, Bergenfield, N. J. and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday from the Graham Funeral Home, the Bronx. Interment was at Kensico Cemetery. The Harlem Valley Times February 29, 1968.
